Each day legal professionals are challenged to find a reliable method of distributing or sharing images, coded data, and OCR. The Storm product line from Image Capture Engineering, Inc. My co-counsel is using different software. What do we do?
Firms using various litigation support software often come to a major roadblock when it comes time to share case files with their co-counsel. Most litigation support databases aren’t able to ‘talk’ to each other and there are several challenges in trying to transfer data between dissimilar databases. In many instances migration is not practical or recommended.

Our experts don’t have software. What do we do?
If you regularly send documents to experts, you probably have found that it can be difficult to produce subsets of images and data or that your current publishing tools are limited. The process of copying selected images and text can be a chore for even the most experienced IT department. Additionally, when you produce documents without a database, users have a difficult time locating specific documents and spend more time than necessary searching through files.
Storm viewer from ICE contains a robust and scalable relational database and a full text search engine. The Storm viewer can be distributed free-of-charge which allows you to share as many subsets as you would like without having to purchase licenses for each expert. How do I migrate to a new database?
Migrating files from Summation or Concordance is challenging. For instance, OCR content and tags are stored in different ways. A basic export of the coded data may not migrate issues or tags, and the source OCR files will no longer be available. Moving data in this way is very tedious and may even require a programmer’s assistance.
StormX (Extractor) provides a simple interface that allows users to quickly extract images, full text and coded data with the load file(s) needed for migration. StormX goes beyond basic data extraction by working directly with these databases and capturing all necessary information.
How do I use one product for review?
You can expect that you will get different types of data and different formats from different vendors. Typically a load file can be used to import or acquire data that will eventually be loaded into the firm’s litigation tool of choice. With so many solutions available in today’s market, versatility when moving data between applications is critical.
The Storm Database Builder allows users to import a variety of load files, ‘raw’ image formats and full text into one review tool. After the initial document review the Storm Database Builder will export the entire review database or subsets to any popular litigation database application.
