The Business Lawyer on CD-ROM

CD-ROMs
Legal Research

The Business Lawyer, published by the American Bar Association's Business Law Section, is now available on CD-ROM. The CD contains the full text of all articles published between 1981 and 1996; additionally, it includes some of the most influential articles published by The Business Lawyer since 1956. Considering that the journal has been cited by state and federal courts at all levels, this collection is a valuable resource in any business lawyer's library.

Utilizing the notable Folio Views search engine, research parameters can be as broad or as narrow as desired. Specialized queries can be constructed, bookmarks added or deleted and toolbars customized in conjunction with unique desktop views. Included is a standardized query template, allowing for searches by volume dates, volume numbers, article titles, or words in an article. Each user can also create a shadow file, which allows the storage of changes to an infobase without directly affecting the original information in the master infobase. All of these features make the database easier to search and access, but the real reward lies in the wealth of information contained in each article. The common Windows interface makes for easy transfer of data to any word processor or for printing and note-taking within the program.

Like other CD-ROM databases, it is having this resource in one readily accessible location that makes it valuable. Laptop users with CD-ROMs will appreciate being able to take their research or reading material with them. Annual cumulative updates keep the library current. This joint effort by the ABA and Data Trace has created an exemplary integration of knowledge and technology for lawyers.
