Case Management

Commence is a client/server app-lication. Installing the Attorney Case Tracking Database involves creating a new database in Commence and then loading (restoring) the database. This process is confusing at best.

Commence provides "desktops" indicated by tabs along the top of the workspace: Calendar, Case Manage-ment and Client Management. The buttons on the left side are labeled Client, Company, Expenses, Judge, Key Dates, Opposition, Staff and To-Do. The Client and Company buttons are used to pop up the Client or Company directory or to add items. The Expenses button can be used for tracking client expenses. The Judge button keeps a Judge Selection List. This provides a useful way to keep detailed information on which judge is assigned to which case. Similarly, the Opposition button brings up the Lawyer List (a database of opposing counsel with contact info). The Key Dates button brings up the Appoint-ments panel. The To-Do button tracks pending and completed items.

Each desktop displays select information in "Views." The Calendar desktop displays the Appointments view. The Case Management desktop displays a list of In-House Attorneys and a Case List. The Client Manage-ment desktop is used to track clients and displays the Staff view and Client Directory view. As you move through the Staff list, the Client Directory view changes to reflect those clients associated with that staff person.
