Phoneslips 2.5 is yet another entry in a long line of integrated messaging and scheduling applications. It consists of three main sections: phone messaging and memo taking, scheduler and to-do list, and phone list. According to Telexis, version 2.6 (not reviewed) adds the ability to track and organize e-mail. The phone messaging module is straightforward. You take a message directly on your computer then route it to one or several recipients. The phone messaging screen itself looks very similar to the phone message "pink slip" commonly used in many offices. After the message has been read, you can archive, delete or keep it on file. The program also has a returned call log so you can track returned phone calls. I found this feature very useful. In addition to the standard messaging areas, you can add notes to almost any screen in Telexis. This is useful as the space in the messaging screen is limited. The memo screen lets you write and route a quick memo. However, the memo screen doesn't allow for formatting; it's really just a note pad. The phone list lets you enter names, numbers and other information. It has an intelligent searching function that automatically attempts to locate what you're looking for. For example, if you type in "B," all of the entries that begin with that letter will appear. Overall, this is a good application, but would work best in a law firm with less than 15 users. Any more and the interface would become too complicated and too busy. Plus, many of this program's features can be found more flushed out in other programs. |
