Harvard Instant Charts

Graphics & Presentations

You say you don't have time to create a chart from scratch? You've got no creativity, but you just need a chart with the information -- and fast? Harvard Instant Charts comes to your rescue with several templates to organize the numbers from your head into a professional chart for presentations.

Harvard Instant Charts is an intelligent solution for visual communications and presentations, whether you are creating handouts, delivering a presentation or addressing an audience via the Web.

Speed is the key advantage of using Harvard Instant Charts. I put it to the test when management needed a chart to display results from our in-house computer training survey. I simply opened WordPerfect and double-clicked on the Harvard Instant Charts icon on my taskbar and selected the type of layout I wanted. I chose the 3-D Bar Chart and then selected my color scheme. After dragging my selection to my blank Word Perfect screen, I edited the template with my information and numbers. In less than 10 minutes, I had a color,
3-D bar chart of our survey results.

The only problem occurred when I was asked to make each bar a different color. I tried all the usual tricks like right-clicking the mouse and consulting the help option and manual, but found no clue as to how to change the individual bar colors. It probably would have been a good idea to include this information in the program's help index or the user's manual. Eventually, I figured out how to make my bars different colors by switching to the table view, putting my numbers in different columns, and then switching back to the 3-D bar chart view.

Harvard Instant Charts definitely takes the pain out of creating time lines from scratch. I've always had problems spacing the distances between entries on time line diagrams. Harvard automatically resolves this problem by spacing the entries for you.

The program actually works in two ways. First it is a companion to a host application, such as Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, Harvard Graphics, Harvard Publisher or any application that supports drag and drop. It then also functions on its own, using the Gallery plus a built-in edit window for creating separate GIF files or graphics to use later.
