| CiteRite 5.5 and 7.0 | Legal Research Utilities Word Processors & Suites |
Lexis-Nexis (formerly
Jurisoft) has released two new versions of CiteRite, version 5.5 for Windows 3.1 and
version 7.0 for Windows 95 and NT. CiteRite scans your briefs and other legal documents
and creates a listing of any and all citation errors.CiteRite examines the citations in your document and compares them to Harvard Bluebook rules or the rules in the California Style Manual. It then generates a report highlighting the errors found with instructions on how to correct them. You will also be referred to the appropriate Bluebook rule so you can understand the reason for the error. Each error must then be corrected by hand using the instructions in the CiteRite error log. CiteRite automatically checks both federal and state statutes, law reviews, books, services, signals, short forms, and string cites. Reported errors will include such things as missing parallel cites, improper underlining and punctuation, and incorrect report abbreviations. Option sets allow you to select the requirements for your specific state. There are two new features in version 5.5: added support for documents containing additional codes created by WordPerfect 7.0 for Windows 3.1x (but only if the document is saved as a WordPerfect 6.x file), and new macros to run from within WordPerfect 6.x and Word 6.0. New features in version 7.0 include support for Windows 95 and NT, support for WordPerfect 7.0 and Word 97 documents, the automatic detection of file formats, macros to launch from Word (6.0, 7.0, 97) and WordPerfect 7.0, an improved user interface and option set handling, and a simplified network installation. A minor annoyance in version 7.0 is the inability to minimize the CiteRite dialog. A major flaw in both versions is that neither yet supports the 16th edition of the Harvard Bluebook (which is the latest version). The rules in CiteRite are still at the 15th edition level. Version 7.0 also has trouble recognizing files saved in earlier versions of WordPerfect 6.x for DOS. Of course, this problem can be easily fixed by re-saving the particular file with a more current version. |
