| InfoAccelerator 5.0 | PIMs |
In an era of incompatible file formats and competing standards, InfoAccelerator
is that rare program that offers an olive branch of connectivity between the warring
factions.InfoAccelerator 5.0 is a one-stop universal address book for Windows. You can transfer address book information to and from any Windows application. For example, if you need an address while in a mail program, simply right-click the "Get an Entry" button and select "e-mail" from the pop-up menu. The program loads its address book and lets you select a recipient. InfoAccelerator can also import information from just about any Windows application. Highlight the appropriate text and the Translator will add the information to an existing entry or create a new one. Although this feature had trouble parsing some longer addresses, it proved to be a quick and dirty way to consolidate scraps of information scattered in various programs. Where the program really shines is its integration with word processors. Most of its functions can be accessed via a word processor from a customizable pull-down menu. InfoAccelerator can assemble standard documents using the information in the address book. This approach is perfect for standard letters, labels, mail merges and simple agreements. For more complex legal documents like trusts, contracts or pleadings, you may be better off using a dedicated and more powerful document assembly program. The other half of InfoAccelerator is a full-featured calendar and contact manager. While not legal-specific, the calendar can track your to-do list, log phone calls and prioritize tasks. The calendar is the only area that needs improvement. It should link to devices like a US Robotics Palm Pilot or a Windows CE handheld. The ability to automatically calculate and schedule due dates would also help, especially for litigators balancing a heavy caseload. Despite these minor omissions, InfoAccelerator is the closest thing to a universal address book on the market. Its practical design and tight integration with all major word processors makes everything on your computer work more efficiently. |
