| Day-Timer Organizer 2.1 | PIMs |
An electronic version of the popular
Day-Timer organizer widely used in law offices, Day-Timer Organizer synchronizes both the
electronic and paper versions. This might help ease the transition for users reluctant to
embrace computers. Although not received in time for this review, a new version, Day-Timer
Organizer 98, has been released. The install routine for Day-Timer is great. By default, an icon is inserted into your Programs folder on the Start Menu. Day-Timer Organizer also includes some nice add-ins. Daily Pop-Ups can be installed that offer a word or quote of the day. Or include various "Deluxe Databases" such as online destinations, area codes, wine guides and other information. Day-Timer's initial screen asks you to choose a view: Planner, Scheduler, Address Book, Phone Calls, Notebook, Expense, Timeline, Task List, Global List or Message Board. The interface for Day-Timer Organizer is easy to use. A toolbar includes buttons for accomplishing most basic tasks. Add information from anywhere in Day-Timer Organizer by clicking the "+" button. Not surprisingly, the calendar in Day-Timer Organizer mimics the print version. Adding a new record is as easy as double clicking in a pane or using the Add Record button. A priority can be assigned to any item. Day-Timer Organizer is very easy to customize and experienced PIM users will like this program a lot. The Address Book in Day-Timer Organizer is equally powerful. After capturing the basic information about the contact, choose from 10 tab folders for more detailed information. "Quick Fill" helps eliminate typing by suggesting any name, company or city you previously entered. Drag an address entry to your calendar and Day-Timer Organizer automatically links the records, giving a history for each person in your address book. You can launch applications from within Day-Timer Organizer. A powerful search engine, including Boolean queries, makes it easy to retrieve the information you need. Day-Timer Organizer can also auto-dial numbers. Outgoing e-mail is supported and if you have a network, you can share files with other users and perform group scheduling. |
Day-Timer
Technologies Inc. (800) 225-5005 By Michael Jimmerson From the Shopper's Guide to Personal Information Managers - Feb/Mar '98 Pros: Day-Timer Organizer 2.1 effectively mimics print version. It has powerful search features. Cons: The setting priorities could be confusing. Verdict: If you are already inseparable from your printed Day-Timer, this is the clear choice. Heck, even if you never got the hang of using a Day-Timer, this program provides plenty of power, customization and features for any user. |
